A Few Tips on Caring for Your New Filling

Posted .

Have you ever been told that root canal therapy is an extremely uncomfortable, unpleasant procedure? While this isn’t true, it’s still better to avoid root canal therapy whenever you can. However, did you know that an untreated cavity can lead to root canal therapy because decay can damage the center of your teeth? Naturally, you should have your cavity filled as soon as possible to avoid this type of issue—but did you know that there are a few things you’ll need to do after your cavity is placed?

For example, once your filling is placed, you’ll need to be careful with the foods you eat. We usually recommend waiting until your mouth isn’t numb to eat. Otherwise, you could accidentally damage your tongue or your teeth. You should also avoid biting down on your filling for a few days to make sure your mouth heals. Hot and cold drinks could also aggravate your tooth until it’s healed. If you’ve had a tooth filled, please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns.

For instance, we recommend calling us if biting down on your tooth hurts or if you spot new cracks in the filled tooth. Finally, if your tooth hurts when you bite down, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
